For my birthday last year, Mike got me a trip to the Alpaca B&B as my present.
I had been patiently waiting all summer counting down the days until I got to spend an ENTIRE WEEKEND WITH ALPACAS.
Anyone who knows me, knows that animals are my jam.
Throughout my life I've had pet chickens, ducks, hamsters, cats, dogs, rabbits and turtles.
Getting to spend an entire weekend at an alpaca farm is definitely a dream come true.
I give Mike so much credit for picking out such a thoughtful gift for me.
I also relentlessly talked about the Alpaca B&B leading up to my birthday *just in case* . . . .you know . . . .he NEEDED some help coming up with an idea for my birthday present.
I personally am awful at getting other people gifts.
For Christmas, I got Mike cookie sheets and a new cookbook.
Did he ask for that?
Did I get him that present so that he would bake me more cookies?
If you’re looking for a fun place to stay in the Appleton/Green Bay Area, I would 100% recommend Sambamba B&B. I had never stayed at a B&B before and frankly, I thought the whole concept was weird. Spending a night in someone elses home always felt intrusive to me. Plus it seemed like staying at a B&B would involve small talk with strangers and I HATE SMALL TALK WITH STRANGERS.
The B&B was large and only had two guest rooms so you never felt like you were pressured to interact with the other guest or the home owners. They were working on the farm most of the time and always welcomed you to help if you were interested. We spent most of our time there just hanging out with the alpacas, sitting on the big front porch or taking the alpacas for walks. We also ate an excessive amount of food at different restaurants in Appleton & Green Bay. Anytime we travel anywhere most of the time is spent eating.
God I could almost die with excitement when I got to walk the alpacas.
But little did I know that the *very* *best* part of the trip was yet to come.
When we arrived on Saturday the wife mentioned that one alpaca was VERY pregnant and was due to give birth any day now. Imagine my surprise and delight when that very same mama went into labor the next day and we got to watch the baby be born!
I think most women after seeing the miracle of birth might have some stirrings of maternal instinct.
A slight twinge maybe?
Did I feel that?
Instead pieces fell into place.
If you read my recent blog post about how I spent a day working on an organic farm, you know that I’ve never been someone who had large or ambitious plans for my life.
I’ve simply been happy just BEING.
Being with Mike.
Being with the dogs.
Being happy enjoying each moment.
But after spending the weekend at the Alpaca B&B, I clearly could see a future where I owned a B&B with animals.
Things just felt right.
I love animals and I have decent amount of experience taking care of them.
I love cooking for friends & family.
I love taking care of others.
I’m that person who will bring you cookies on your birthday. Or make you your favorite dinner if you had a bad day.
Will this happen in the next year?
And I’m okay with that.
But I do clearly see a future with Mike, the dogs, a barn full of animals and a guest or two at our B&B in the country.
